Keely's Relaxation and Self care Techniques whilst in Isolation 

Dear Patients 

 

Some positive ideas to keep you going whilst we manage our time through self-isolation. 

 

Meditation on the breath for 10 mins 

  1. Sit comfortably with your back straight, relaxing the body. 

  1. As you breath in become aware of every breath. Feel the cool air as it enters the nostrils and the warmth of the air that leaves the out breath. 

  1. If thoughts come into your mind to distract you, simply acknowledge them, accept them, and take your focus back to your breathing. 

  1. You may find it helpful to visualise the thoughts as bubbles that gently pop and dissolve, or as clouds that pass serenely across the blue sky and out of sight. 

  1. To come out of the meditation rub the palms together then cover your eyes with your palms for a moment. 

  1. Open your eyes, gradually open your fingers to let in the light, stretch and slowly move. 

 

Inner smile meditation 5 mins 

  1. Sit in a comfortable position with the spine upright, but relaxed, close your eyes and focus on your breath. 

  1. When your breathing has become calm and peaceful, take yourself back to a time when you were intensely happy. As you relive this experience feel a gentle smile of happiness spread across your face. 

  1. Take this smile up to your eyes, making then sparkle behind your closed eyelids. Feel the warm glow develop as your smile expand to your whole body from your forehead, down the back of your head, your neck, shoulders and arms, then down through to your feet, your abdomen and digestive organs and all the way down to your feet. 

  1. Affirm “I am happy to be me I love and accept myself just as I am, right now.” 

 

Diet 

 

Essential Fats are a necessary component of a healthy diet. Omega 3 & 6 are present in every cell of the body. Essential fats improve: 

 

  • Brain function  

  • Immune function  

  • Digestion 

  • Energy levels  

  • Hormone function 

 

And protects you against depression, food cravings, damage to cells and genes, and the build-up of toxins. 

 

Foods rich in Omega -3 are found in grains, salmon, anchovies, mackerel, trout, eggs, flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, green leafy vegetables, raw walnuts. 

 

Foods rich in Omega -6 are found in corn, soybeans, nuts and seeds, fish , poultry and eggs, broccoli, kale, lettuce. 

 

 

 

The Power of Walking 

 

There are many benefits to walking. It is a means of generating good health and vitality within the body. The stimulation of the nerve endings on the feet activates energy flow throughout the body. Breathing deeply whilst walking helps to cleanse the blood and calms and clears the mind. When we walk in nature it allows us to absorb negative ions which act as a simulator of fresh energy and vitality. 

When you walk try to visualise a golden cord extending from your navel towards a point on the horizon and then look ahead to that point as you walk towards it.

Your thoughts affect the nature of water, and the water in your body will take on the structure of your thoughts. This is why you should always eat and drink in a positive way.
